Georgia On My Mind, a pop-up show featuring photographs by Managing Partner Guy Geier is on view in the FXCollaborative Gallery from July 5–31, 2018. Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, July 5, from 6:00-8:00 PM.

The photographs were taken during a family trip to visit Guy's daughter-in-law's country of birth, the
Republic of Georgia. During the two week trip, Guy and his family visited the capital city of
Tbilisi as well as the surrounding countryside including excursions to
Kakheti, the
Vardzia Cave Monastery and the
David Gareja Monastery near the border of Azerbaijan. His second excursion took him north of Tbilisi to
Caucusus; the wine region of
Kakheti, where wine is known to have been invented 5,000 years ago; a drive up the Georgian Military Highway to
Stepantsminda, near the Russian border; and a hike to the
Gergeti Holy Trinity Church at an elevation of 7,120 feet. While in the area, Guy also traveled into the
Terek River Valley, seemingly stepping back in time to see abandoned towns and monasteries as well as sheep herders and incredible mountain scenery.

Using only an iPhone to document the journey, Guy was awed by the majesty of the mountains and the rugged beauty of the architecture. Georgia is a modern country but it has remarkably maintained its traditions and respect for its history. While visits to other countries are often unsurprising based on our studies of architectural history, Georgia was an open book with a surprise hidden around every corner or mountain pass.

The FXCollaborative Gallery is open to the public on weekdays, Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Friday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
