Our expansion and renovation of the 1969 Brutalist structure positions it once again as a premier international conservatory of music, dance, and drama.
In order to offer expanded programs and educational opportunities, and keep pace with advancing technology, Juilliard sought to add 39,000 square feet of classrooms, musical practice rooms, rehearsal space, and two new performance venues. In collaboration with Diller Scofidio + Renfro, our design included improved way-finding, informal social spaces for students, improved access to daylight and views, a more prominent and public entrance, and better visibility for the school's public performance venues. As a school for the performing arts, the technical challenges of upgrading acoustic qualities, sound isolation, and mechanical system performance was an integral part of achieving the spatial, programming, and pedagogical goals.
