Merging the man-made with the natural environment, the Qala Alti Hotel Spa unfolds in concert with the natural topography.
The Qala Alti Hotel Spa is situated in the DeveiƧ region of Azerbaijan, at the foot of a 4th-century fort where an old Soviet-era medicinal spa once stood. Looking to revitalize the region's history of health tourism, the new hospitality entity sought to modernize that local legacy while preserving the site's distinct cascading landscape. Our design includes a hotel with 180 rooms, private villas, a medical treatment facility, a spa, pool, and various dining and recreational amenities. The extensive building program is distributed across the site, interweaving with the landscape to define pockets of activity, as the cascading landscape becomes the very organizing principle for the structure's meandering form. Borrowing the language and materials of the surrounding stone cliffs, the structure embraces its setting in both form and program to offer unparalleled views of the Caspian Sea.
