To provide an immersive experience for their tenants, we re-envisioned this Midtown Manhattan property as a forward-looking workplace ecosystem to leverage an existing plaza, arcade, and jewel box of a lobby to welcome visitors and guests at the street level. The reimaging of the piano-shaped ground floor lobby included a newly sculptured, structural glass facade that maximizes transparency from the street through to the outdoor plaza space.
The connectivity between indoor and outdoor space is amplified by a new ceiling that pulls a pattern of playful light apertures that vary in size. Art is an important activator, and a new security desk is shaped to celebrate the fluid lines of the curved perimeter and anchor the lobby. A bush-hammered finish on the round concrete columns lends a tactile texture to the otherwise sleek finish palette. The design continues outside, with new planters and benches creating a conversation pit around the former loading area.
