Toby Snyder

AIA, LEED AP
Senior Associate, Design Director

Architecture is a collaborative act that binds people together. It is impossible to do this job alone.
To Toby, a city is not just an aggregation of social and political groups and flows of capital; it is also an act of design. Toby's passion and commitment to urban design, creative community development, and sustainable architecture stem from a belief that the challenges to contemporary society's cities, neighborhoods, and buildings can only be resolved if they are seen in relation to each other.

Starting with collaborations with a childhood friend, creating extravagant floorplans of castles with thousands of rooms (complete with dedicated “grape soda room"), Toby finds working with a team a natural fit. Always interested in places and spaces, he began his career as a cartographer, followed by a degree in Urban Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. Seeking to address the intensifying problems of urbanization, he then pursued a graduate degree in Architecture at Rhode Island School of Design.

As an architect and planner, Toby has played a significant role in several of our projects, working in all phases of design from master planning to construction administration. Sustainability and affordability are more than buzz words to him: he views each facet of his work—from his designs to the way he talks about projects to how he works in the office—as contributing to a more sustainable and more affordable world.
