I always enjoy visiting our projects on site–no matter which stage of construction or even long after completion. But my recent project visit was more special than all of the others; it's the first FXFOWLE building I've visited outside of New York City. While on vacation in Istanbul, I had an opportunity to tour our new building Ronesans (Renaissance) Tower with Tugba Karakis, Design Office Manager, Renaissance Construction. I approached the tower by car, and even at a distance it was quite clear that the tower's inspiration and design take cues from Ottoman geometric motifs. After already spending two days exploring Istanbul, several Mosques, the Basilica Cistern, and getting lost in the Grand Bazaar (but in a good way), I had a greater sense of the city's culture and aspiration for beauty, elegance and technique in its architecture. As the firm's Communications Director I listened intently to Tugba as she pointed out innovations, locally-sourced materials and specific design elements. But what she said at the end of the tour left the greatest impression–Ronesans Tower is the first building to bear the company's name. What started as a tour to gather information for future press announcements and media alerts, ended with a huge sense of pride.
[Update: The name of the project is now Allianz Tower]
