A soaring sky-lit atrium, created from the existing central air shaft, serves refurbished retail and office spaces that are flooded with natural light.
In an iconic Rust Belt city on the cusp of a rebirth, an Victorian masterpiece had fallen from grace. Our challenge was how to preserve the Powers Building's storied character while transforming and reviving it to serve a contemporary Rochester. In association with Handler/Grosso, we faithfully restored the building's façade exactly to its turn-of- the-century grandeur. The interior is upgraded for modern commercial use, with Class A mechanical systems, windows, roofing, lighting, and weather proofing. The Powers Building is listed on the National Register of Landmark Structures.
