FXCollaborative was one of five finalists in a competition to design the renovation of the Queens Museum of Art. The entry is based on the concept of a living museum sited within the historic context of the former World's Fair site and its diverse present-day community. Interior spaces overlap and serve multiple uses to provide flexibility. The roof trusses of the existing building are preserved and covered with a patchwork of photovoltaic panels and glass to allow daylight to enter. A metal and primarily glass façade frames the movement of visitors, placing culture itself on display. Outdoor seating and a mobile billboard further serve to draw park users toward the museum.
