Through a holistic development strategy, the master plan strengthens the commercial and residential potential surrounding the airport, clarifies zoning, and elevates the public realm experience.
We developed the downtown Jamaica Transportation Center master plan in anticipation of the AirTrain connection to John F. Kennedy Airport. The master plan included an area-wide transportation plan, a development plan, and an urban design plan to provide a comprehensive assessment that leveraged the transportation center's location, an eight-minute transit trip from the airport. The plan accommodates off-airport businesses and services in downtown Jamaica to spur future commercial growth while buffering residential areas. Streetscape enhancements include a defined entrance boulevard, a gateway park, and pedestrian mews.
