The overall effect is one of restraint, highlighting the original roughhewn wood rafters and dark wood floors, while new, crisp white walls float free of columns that might otherwise obstruct views.
For San Francisco-based Hosfelt Gallery, expanding its foothold in the contemporary art world to a New York City location called for a bold, highly functional space—one that could both activate their artists' works and respond to its new home.

Working in collaboration with San Francisco-based designer Louis Schump, we transformed a former commercial auto repair shop into an open and airy gallery space. A 60-foot-long exhibition area links two 40 x 40-foot galleries, while seven skylights provide diffused light, which can be darkened for digital installations.
