The Metropolitan Transportation Authority/New York City Transit Authority engaged FXCollaborative to design a new entrance for its Times Square Subway Station—the city's largest, providing access to 11 subway lines and serving nearly 500,000 users daily. The design captured the exuberance of Times Square through its vibrant, undulating canopy topped with brightly-lit, animated signs. Inside, the curving form continues as the ceiling plane spanning the token booth, turnstiles, and down the escalator and stairs. On the track level, a signage piece recollects an old Broadway theater marquee, serving as the focal point of the station and orienting riders within the complex.
