Located on a riverfront block at the western end of 57th Street, the Helena is a 37-story residential building with 580 market-rate and affordable housing units from studio to one- and two-bedroom layouts. The tower is clad with sleek metal panels, and floor-to-ceiling glazing wraps corners to maximize views. The LEED Gold-rated tower is the first voluntarily sustainable high-rise residential building in New York City, integrating such technologies as photovoltaic panels, a blackwater treatment plant, efficient micro-turbines, and green roofs. The construction of the Helena spurred development in this once-desolate industrial area.
