A uniquely informative building, the Golisano Institute for Sustainability speaks directly to the next generation of green builders.
Rochester Institute of Technology's new home for its sustainability program had a clear mandate: more than just a green building, it needed to be a living laboratory—where the structure itself becomes a teaching tool. We designed the four-story Galleria to work as the building's lung, deploying sensors and dampers to control intake and exhaust air. Daylight harvesting cuts down on artificial lighting usage, while dynamic displays share data that reflect the building's energy performance. The building is maximized for functionality, with ample lab space equipped for research, testing, and prototype manufacturing of sustainable products.
