FXCollaborative lead a multi-disciplinary team who conducted a feasibility study and related planning for the proposed development of a mixed-use community over the 180-acre Sunnyside Yard in Queens, NY. The study provides guidance to the City of New York and Amtrak as to the feasibility of an overbuild project at Sunnyside Yard, and provides program, phasing, and implementation recommendations. The comprehensive assessment considers the configuration and operation of the rail yard, infrastructure/utility conditions, and an economic analysis of building over the rail yards, utilizing an iterative process. The study includes a series of urban design scenarios intended to describe the potential for the transformation of the rail yards into an urban destination and compelling mixed-use environment.
