The design intention for the new Czech Republic Embassy Building stems from its primary purpose to represent the Czech Republic in Washington, DC. At a macro scale, the site organization is influenced by the organic growth patterns of Baroque urban conditions, similar to Prague. Such concepts of urban conditions based on functional growth organize the site into three distinct security zones of public, semi-private, and private. Existing landscape elements such as mature trees and historical markers are preserved, serving as nodes that inform a broad architectural design, allowing for the formal expression of the new Embassy Building to be suggestive of its surroundings. At a micro level, the Embassy Building design follows a linear flow of programmatic adjacencies balancing private and public services.
Through our interpretation of the existing conditions, a bold and dignified structure emerges from the landscape to house the new embassy for the Czech Republic. This architectural icon will serve as a national identity on foreign soil to impart the energy and heritage of Czech culture and politics.
