Adaptability + Diversity + Redundancy

Resiliency is the ability to survive natural disasters and it is the quality in a home and community that allows people to live normal lives in spite of their seasonal exposure to extreme weather. A resilient home is the building block of a resilient community that can adapt and grow through any events, whether forecast or unexpected. Individual homes can literally become islands during a flood event, making it vital that internal systems are strong so residents can remain in their homes as much as possible. This also reinforces the need for effective inter-home connections to counteract complete isolation.

This design features a fractal approach to building strength. Like a tree utilizes repeating shapes where branches sprout from trunk, twigs sprout from branch, where rectangular plant cells line up in rectangular layers, we are drawing strength from repetition at scale. Repetition with slight modification at each level is what carries genetic codes forward, and what allows a community to move forward after a devastating storm.
