As new towers emerge along the East River, Northside Piers stand as the preeminent model of how to interweave public and private, creating a functional oasis for residents and neighbors alike.
As one of the first major developments projects to implement the rezoning of Brooklyn's waterfront, we had a daunting task: transform the post-industrial hinterlands of Williamsburg into a vibrant urban community, reconnecting the borough with its forgotten shoreline. Following close conversations with the city and local community, a vision for Northside Piers emerged: three, glass-clad towers would flank the water's edge, offering residents sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline, while six levels of retail, parking, and affordable residential units open a dialogue at the street level. Individual townhouses line a public access path to the water, and a new park and 400-foot pier further connects Brooklynites to water transit and recreation.
