Rows of planted trees on the roofscape echo the park below, while an outdoor performance and lecture space activates the space in any season.
A 2014 study for Barnard College's Teaching and Learning Center presented a distinctly urban challenge: how to knit an entirely new structure into an already densely developed campus—yet still leave to room to breathe? Our concept creates a generous amount of new interior square footage with a calming 4-story capsule. What appear to be wide switchbacks along the side maximize outdoor meeting space, while allowing daylight to penetrate each level.
