Matthew H. James is a contemporary artist known for his captivating explorations of the human condition through mixed media artworks. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, with a BFA from Pratt Institute, James embarked on a a residency at the Vermont Studio center where he developed the foundation of his professional work. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and the intricacies of the human psyche, his work explores the delicate balance between chaos and order, movement and stillness in large scale sculptures and paintings. His art references abstract expressionism through process driven works utilizing material and chemical interactions. James has permanent displays of his large works throughout the world from Iceland, Copenhagen, Manila, Honolulu and a sculpture collaboration with Vera Wang at The Onyx in NYC.
