FXCollaborative 2021: A Year in Review

FXCollaborative
Happy Holidays and Cheers to 2022 from everyone at FXCollaborative, from our new home in Brooklyn.

2021 has been a landmark year for FXCollaborative, from moving into our new office in downtown Brooklyn to celebrating some exciting project milestones and employee achievements. We want to thank our colleagues, clients, consultants, vendors, and friends as we reflect on this year and look forward to a bright 2022.

This year, our work both on our projects and in our communities deepened our commitments to sustainability, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the AEC industry and beyond:
- We completed work on a new, purpose-built facility for Covenant House New York, which supports the not-for-profit's mission of providing homeless youth with shelter and opportunities to work toward stable and successful lives, and we raised over $4,500 for the 2021 Virtual Sleep Out.
- Our new office in 1 Willoughby Square was certified LEED Platinum, becoming the first LEED Platinum v4 ID+C in New York City and the highest scoring LEED v4 ID+C CI in the country.
- We were also proud to release a new Sustainability Action Plan and Materials Library Manifesto, and to participate in the AIA's Architecture & Design Materials Pledge.
- Throughout the year, we have contributed to scholarships for architecture students at institutions such as CCNY, Cornell University, and the University of Virginia, supporting access to education and professional development for a diverse group of students.

We were pleased to participate in numerous conferences and events throughout the year, including AIA Learning Futures, Infraday East, the National Organization of Minority Architects' 50th Anniversary Conference, and Metropolis Magazine's Think Tank series, to name a few. We were also able to have valuable conversations as guests on multiple podcasts, including From the Founder, Designing the 21st Century, and American Building.

Our projects, thoughts, and stories have been published in publications including Architectural Record, The Architect's Newspaper, The New York Times, Metropolis Magazine, The International Educator, and The Zweig Letter.

Several of our employees have earned well-deserved recognition throughout the industry:
- Kimberley Petredis, Director of Residential Interiors, was named one of Professional Women in Construction New York's 20 Under 40 Outstanding Women in Construction.
- Ann Rolland, Partner, was named one of Crain's New York Business Notable LGBTQ Leaders and Executives.
- Sara Davis, Principal, was named one of New York Real Estate Journal's 2021 Women in Building Services.
- Wendi Shafran, Director of Affordable Housing, was named one of New York Real Estate Journal's 2021 Ones to Watch.
- Carol Hsiung's drawing was one of 100 finalists for the 2021 One Drawing Challenge hosted by Architizer, with her work being one of the "best examples of architectural storytelling" amongst the entries.
- Partner Michael Syracuse's photo of the Jacob K. Javits Federal Office Building and Court of International Trade was voted one of the most compelling images by ArchDaily for this year's World Photography Day.

Our projects were also honored with notable industry awards this year. 250 Park Avenue Lobby and Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge & Offices at Moynihan Train Hall were recognized in the 2021 NYCxDesign Awards. Jolie on Greenwich (Dickey House) was awarded the Lucy Moses Preservation Award. 7900 Wisconsin Avenue earned the Washington Building Congress Craftsmanship Award. Pace University Student Landscape won an AIA Education Facility Design Award. The Statue of Liberty Museum was awarded The Chicago Athenaeum Green GOOD DESIGN Award.
