We're proud to announce that FXCollaborative's design of the new Ministry of Taxes tower has been awarded a 2021 International Architecture Award.

This award is organized by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design in partnership with the European Center for Architecture and Design and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Arts Press, Ltd. to honor significant new landscape, building, and planning projects by leading architects, landscape architects, and planners across the globe. Since its conception in 2004, the International Architecture Awards are dedicated to the recognition of excellence in architecture and urbanism from a global point-of-view.

The Ministry of Taxes embraces the essence of the energetic city of Baku, Azerbaijan, with a design guided by cultural responses, sustainable concerns, and its pivotal location. The tower establishes a memorable presence for the Ministry on the skyline with a unique spiraling design that optimizes solar orientation and views to Baku's city center and the Caspian Sea. Comprised of 31 floors (plus 2 below-grade floors of parking), the Ministry of Taxes is a new office headquarters building that also features a complex range of programming and indoor/outdoor green spaces that support the Ministry's employees and visitors.

Design was completed with input from a number of consultants including Thornton Tomasetti for structural engineering and Werner Sobek for façade engineering. Innovative structural solutions were developed to support the five twisting cubes, and address high seismic and wind loads. Construction of the project began in 2016 by Tefken Construction, who served as the main contractor for the project.
