FXCollaborative has welcomed four interns to the office through the FXCollaborative Foundation CCNY Diversity Scholarship, the NOMA Foundation Fellowship, and FXCollaborative's blind resume review process. The four students and recent graduates will be working alongside our architects, designers, and planners for the duration of the summer!
Nada Elsayed — City College of New York; FXCollaborative Foundation CCNY Diversity Scholarship Recipient
Born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, Nada Elsayed moved to New York City in 2012 and is going into the fifth year of her Bachelor of Architecture degree at CCNY, with graduation expected in June 2022. Nada is a recipient of the FXCollaborative Foundation CCNY Diversity Scholarship, and is spending her internship at FXCollaborative assisting the Cultural/Educational Studio and Children's Museum of Manhattan project team. "I'm looking forward to gaining new knowledge and experiences through this summer internship." In addition to her architectural work, she helps maintain the Solar RoofPod garden at CCNY and volunteers at Tarjimly as an Arabic translator for Syrian refugees.
Miluska Franco — New Jersey Institute of Technology; 2021 Urban Land Institute/Randall Lewis Research Fellow
Miluska is a graduate of NJIT, holding both a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Arts in Infrastructure Planning. Originally from Lima, Peru, Miluska wants to use both architecture and planning to live out a purpose of service to others. "I'm looking forward to learning from my team about the intersection between planning and architecture."
Sidney Mauricio — City College of New York; FXCollaborative Foundation CCNY Diversity Scholarship Recipient
From Queens, NY, Sidney is a rising second-year student at the Spitzer School of Architecture at the City College of New York, targeting a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Sidney is a recipient of the FXCollaborative Foundation CCNY Diversity Scholarship. "In this internship, I look forward to gaining more knowledge and experience of architecture on a professional level for the first time." She also actively participates in and runs club meetings and events celebrating Filipino culture at her college.
Alexander Thomas — Macalester College; NOMA Foundation Fellowship Recipient
Alex is a rising senior at Macalester College in Minnesota studying Environmental Studies, Studio Art, and Urban Studies. Alex is a recipient of the NOMA Foundation Fellowship. He grew up between India and the Middle East where the natural and urban environments—whether it was rainforests or dense city centers—inform a lot of his social, aesthetic, and environmental sensibility. "I'm excited about the opportunity to work with FXCollaborative because it allows me to get involved in a region and a scale of work I've never worked with before. ... I'm looking forward to seeing how theories of urbanism and sustainability I've read about in my classes apply and unfold in the work that we do. Importantly, I'm glad to be a part of a firm that actively works toward equity and diversity, ensuring that the spaces that we design are accessible, safe, and livable for all people."
