Senior Partner Dan Kaplan will speak at Cornell University College of Architecture, Art, and Planning in New York City (AAP NYC) on Tuesday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m., 26 Broadway, 20th Floor, New York, NY. The L. Michael Goldsmith Lecture
is free and open to the public. RSVP by April 20 (seating limited).
Dan will present "Urban Alchemies: Repair and Transformation." Imagination, intelligence, and memory are essential to both heal and elevate the larger urban condition through individual works of architecture. Without imagination, we are regulated to accepting the status quo and looking backwards in nostalgia. Without intelligence, we do not have the technical ability and clarity of approach required to successfully develop a plan to create a better future. Without memory—the understanding of interconnection between all the pieces—we have no sense of the environmental, cultural, political, and economic forces that shape our city. Three recent projects embodying this perspective and under Dan's direction will be presented.
An exhibition, Urban Alchemies: Repair and Transformation, accompanies the lecture. The AAP NYC gallery is located at 26 Broadway, 20th Floor, New York, NY. ID is required to enter the building. The exhibition is open until May 1, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Senior Partner Dan Kaplan gave this year's L. Michael Goldsmith lecture at Cornell AAP NYC. His presentation, "Urban Alchemies: Repair and Transformation", focuses on how imagination, intelligence, and memory are essential to both heal and elevate the larger urban condition through individual works of architecture. The annual Goldsmith lecture was established in memory of L. Michael Goldsmith by his family and friends in recognition of his passion for his education at Cornell University, his career, and love of the profession of architecture.
