Children's Aid College Prep Charter School Breaks Ground

Ground broke today for a new state-of-the-art Bronx Community School, which will serve as a community center and the new home of Children's Aid College Prep Charter School. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Senior Partner Sylvia Smith stated, "The building's shape embraces community and expresses the dynamic, interactive, dedicated learning and support that will happen within. We have designed many educational spaces, but this one has struck a strong chord for us because we have become members of the community."

The six-story, 73,300-square-foot building is expected to open in August 2016, at a total project cost of $45 million. The building will stand in close proximity to other Children's Aid locations that provide critical services to South Bronx families. Included among the building's many features is a full array of creative arts facilities, modern science and media resources, a gymnasium, cafeteria, and much more.

"Our new facility will serve as a true hub for the Bronx community with a comprehensive array of resources in the building or close at hand," said Children's Aid President and CEO Phoebe Boyer. "This project creates an ideal environment for what we believe is a cornerstone of our work—merging high-quality academics with the supports that break down the barriers to educational achievement for many lower-income families."
