Banking on Biophilia

FXCollaborative
We have been selected to design a new 28-story corporate tower in Fuzhou, China; the capital city of the Fujian Province. Located in the Straights Financial Street Development of the city's Taijian District, the Fubon Fuzhou Financial Center will be one of the largest bank headquarters in the region. Our design is responsive to Fuzhou's natural landscape–the bending of the adjacent Minjiang River and Mt. Fu, the mountain in which the city is named. In response to solar orientation, the tower's south façade curves outward and features horizontal shading, the east and west vertical shading, and the north façade is open. The tower's program is comprised of an elegant, pavilion-form lobby that connects and extends into a formal garden space. The building also includes a banking hall, meeting/conference room spaces, general office space, and a top floor amenity space with a large terrace overlooking the river. The tower core is oriented on the north façade with glass-enclosed stairs that encourages circulation. Connection to the city's verdant context and dramatic views promote a connection to nature and biophilia for occupants: from the two-story, indoor-outdoor sky-gardens on the southwest of the tower, to the center of the north façade.
