Urban Narratives: Story Telling in Architecture and Film

FXCollaborative
We are hosting a panel discussion in Los Angeles, CA on November 20 entitled Urban Narratives: Story Telling in Architecture and Film. The panel will explore how filmmakers and architects share the capacity to set stories in place. While filmmakers seek locations to unfold narratives, architects design buildings to support narratives. Los Angeles provides the perfect opportunity to reflect on this reciprocal relationship to the city. And through its robust film industry, the city of has demonstrated the capacity to transform its character from highly specific to virtually anonymous. This event features architects, filmmakers, and authors/educators reflecting on their creative work as they set spaces for narratives in the city. The moderator for Urban Narratives: Story Telling in Architecture and Film is Kim Tanzer, FAIA, DPACSA, Professor of Architecture at the University of Virginia. Panelists include Edward Dimendberg, Professor of Film and Media Studies and Visual Studies at the University of California, Irvine; Dan Kaplan, FAIA, LEED, Senior Partner at FXFOWLE; Amy Murphy, Associate Professor in Architecture at the University of Southern California; and Aric Lasher, Principal and Director of Design at HBRA Architects (Chicago) and former set designer (Minority Report, Pearl Harbor, What Dreams May Come).
