We have been selected to create a new vision-based master plan for the
Ethical Culture Fieldston School (ECFS), one of the oldest pre-K-12 progressive schools in the nation. The master plan, one of the school's strategic plan priorities, will prepare a proposed road map for thinking about the physical aspects of the campus by analyzing the school's various needs, prioritizing student and faculty aspirations, and addressing them in a comprehensive and holistic manner. ECFS serves approximately 1,700 students and 325 faculty and staff in four divisions-Ethical Culture, located in midtown Manhattan on Central Park West in a six-story, turn-of-the-century school building, and Fieldston Lower, Fieldston Middle, and Fieldston Upper, which are located on an 18-acre campus in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Our approach to creating the master plan is summarized by the idea to pedagogically and physically join, link, and fasten together the unique qualities of the ECFS: the richness of its heritage, the ideals of its progressive mission, and the character of the Riverdale and Manhattan campuses.
