Women of FXCollaborative Presents: Beverly Willis

FXCollaborative
Join us for a conversation on advocacy with renowned architect, artist, author and philanthropist Beverly Willis on Wednesday, March 28. This program is presented by Women of FXCollaborative (FXWomen) whose mission is to support professional growth and leadership development for women.

For over 67 years, Beverly Willis, FAIA, has steadily contributed to the architecture profession through design innovation and leadership. An autodidact always willing to take risks, Willis accepted commissions with no built precedents, adopted practices decades before they became mainstream, and sought research-driven solutions unique to each project. She pioneered the adaptive reuse of historic buildings in the Union Street Shops, San Francisco (1965); introduced digital programming in large-scale land planning with CARLA (1971), a software program developed by Willis and her firm; and created an enduring international prototype for dance spaces with the San Francisco Ballet Building (1984). Her designs combine an artist's appreciation of light, color, and texture, and a designer's understanding of form and proportion to enhance the spatial experience and engage the senses. In 2002, at the age of 75, she formed the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation (BWAF), a nonprofit organization with the mission of advancing the knowledge and recognition of women's contributions to architecture.
