Matter Design Computation: Biosynthesis & New Paradigms of Making, a lecture by
Jenny Sabin on Thursday, March 30. The lecture is presented by Women of FXFOWLE (WFXF) whose mission is to support professional growth and leadership development for women.
Jenny Sabin's work and research is at the forefront of a new direction for 21st-century architectural practice—one that investigates the intersections of architecture and science, and applies insights and theories from biology and mathematics to the design of material structures. She is the Principal of Jenny Sabin Studio, an experimental architectural design studio; Director of the Sabin Design Lab, a research entity based at Cornell University; and co-founder of LabStudio, a hybrid research and design network.
Lumen by Jenny Sabin Studio was named the winner of
The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1's annual Young Architects Program. Opening on June 29 in the
MoMA PS1 courtyard, this year's construction is an immersive design that evolves over the course of a day, providing a cooling respite from the midday sun and a responsive glowing light after sundown. Drawn from among five finalists, Jenny Sabin Studio's
Lumen will serve as a temporary urban landscape for the 20th season of
Warm Up, MoMA PS1's pioneering outdoor music series.
Lumen will remain on view through the summer.
