FXFOWLE spent an afternoon outdoors on Wards Island farming in partnership with
Project EATS and
New York Cares. As a corporate sponsor of New York Cares, FXFOWLE held its fourth firmwide volunteering event with the organization in support of the urban farming and sustainability movement in New York City. A group of FXFOWLE volunteers helped create a clean and vibrant urban space for food production, working with gardeners to pick vegetables, remove weeds, and prep the farm for winter.
Project EATS is a non-profit organization that sustainably produces and equitably distributes essential resources to working class and low-income communities. The organization launches farm sites in conjunction with neighborhood high schools and community-based organizations. They provide the site and the materials needed to construct the farms, and additional materials needed to start outdoor community markets. From food grown at the farms, Project EATS develops product lines that make it possible for communities to expand and diversify their markets and revenue streams.
